Police officer shot in Brooklyn

This happened last night. The officer is expected to survive, fortunately.

This is what I walked into today on my way to an appointment near the NYPD’s 90th precinct.

I was nervous. Was I walking into an active crime scene?

There was a crowd waiting so I asked. A suspect had been arrested and was expected to be transfered soon.

The waiting crowd was a cross-section of the neighborhood: white, black, latino, hasidic.

If you don’t know what it’s like to live in New York City, you might think this is a common occurrence. Or at least not a rarity. But I haven’t ever witnessed anything like it. I think a lot of people felt the same way and stuck around for a look.
