Clearly I love my Canadian friends. Here’s another: Shannon Kelly aka @shankell.
Shannon blogs, works in social media, and aspires to be a sports broadcaster and professional golfer among other things. This woman has a LOT going on.
Let’s get to know her better.
OneChicklette: Your favorite qualities in a love interest
@shankell: Breathing 🙂 I think my favourite quality in a love interest is allowing me to shine. I use the reference of Jay-Z and Beyoncé often: he allows her to be the beautiful and successful woman she is. I think a couple that supports each other, wants the best for one another, and genuinely is their partners biggest cheerleader – that’s a relationship I want to be in. I also like tall men with great traps – I am a strange girl.
OneChicklette: Your chief characteristic (one word)
@shankell: One word! Ahhh, shouldn’t I get 140 characters?
My Mom said, “bossy and controlling.” Thanks Mom.
Confident would probably be my chief characteristic. I think it encompasses a lot of what makes me, well, me. I am a strong female trying to make it in a very male dominated industry. My friends often say that I am the most confident person they know, because I don’t really take any shit from anyone.
Can I say shit? I just did, twice.
There is a fine line between being confident in who you are, and being cocky about what you’ve achieved. This doesn’t stem from my resume, more from being comfortable in my own skin.
OneChicklette: What you appreciate most in your friends
@shankell: Loyalty. It’s a simple thing, yet so many people struggle with it. I’ve come to realize, over the last few years, that loyalty separates the men from the boys. It’s integral for my close friends to have, and I thank them for it.
OneChicklette: Your idea of happiness
@shankell: Time for my favourite quote!
“I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances.” – Martha Washington.
It’s one of the most true things I have ever read. I wake up every day, being fully aware, that living a free life where I can be me, do as I please, and enjoy the world I live in, is not a luxury – it’s a privilege. So I enjoy it. I work hard and constantly smile. There are people in this world who smile a lot more than we do, who have circumstance that shouldn’t make them happy. But they are. That’s happiness.
OneChicklette: Your idea of misery
@shankell: Misery – well now. I think misery is often the opposite of what I said about happiness (it is even in the quote). That your circumstances define you. I’m not a big fan of negative things, so moving along… positivity people!
OneChicklette: Your favorite fictional character
@shankell: Belle from Beauty and the Beast of course! First of all, she’s a Disney Princess – what is not to love. But, she also loves the Beast, just for being him. Sure, he’s scary, and very hairy, but he is also loveable and gentle and a PRINCE! I also think it’s darn right amazing that she can look just as good shopping in town, as she does in a ball gown. Now that is something to strive for.
OneChicklette: Your favorite thing to eat, and also to drink
@shankell: My word, I like to eat a lot of things, but nothing gets me more than a good burrito. That’s right, cheap date. I also love a great glass of white wine or some bubbly. Now I am hungry and thirsty.
OneChicklette: Five tangible things you can’t live without
@shankell:
1. My iPhone. It should just be attached to my body. I live and breathe social media, I enjoy being “in the know” and I always need to have an update on the current score of the game.
2. Sunglasses. I wear extremely large sunnies, and miss them greatly if they are not with me. They protect my sensitive eyes, as well as prevent wrinkles.
3. Lipstick. I have an odd thing about lip conditioning and always having something on my lips. I also wear a mean red/berry lip, and I couldn’t imagine a day without it.
4. A great pair of heels. As Victoria Beckham said, “I can’t think in flats.”
5. Sleep Mask. Yes, I am a diva when it comes to sleeping. Most people think that sleeping masks are only worn in movies, or by Blair Waldorf, but I too sleep with one. Try it before judging.
@shankell: I wouldn’t know… I’ve never had one!
OneChicklette: A question I should ask the next participant
@shankell: You should ask the next participant: if you had to give up one thing, that means a lot to you, for the rest of your life – what would it be, and why?
@shankell: Big Huge Shout-Outs and love to everyone who I interact with on Twitter! I have made some wonderful friends that I hold near and dear to my heart. You all make me strive to be better.
