Thoughts on California

I’m writing this as I wait for my twice-delayed flight from SFO to JFK. If there is any luck in this word, I’ll be back in NYC as you read this.

But anything’s possible. As long as I’m home in time for The Bachelorette Monday night, no one gets hurt.

I was in the Bay Area for four nights – two business, two leisure – and these are some of my observations and recollections in no particular order.

My best meal of the trip was at Va de Vi in Walnut Creek. From wine flights to an incredible short rib to the dessert sampler, it couldn’t have been more enjoyable.

Capitola is fun for a day trip. Colorful.

I loved seeing the ocean (just as I did here).

Even in the midst of California’s drought, it feels like a lush place – probably thanks to the gorgeous fruit trees so many have. I saw limes, plums, oranges and figs. JEALOUS!

And now for something totally random: Bay Area ladies’ rooms are generally better maintained than those I’ve seen in other cities. And seemingly 90% of them have paper seat covers. Aren’t you glad to learn this?!
