My bedroom – progress report

Greeting from Dullsville! I haven’t been posting much recently because my life recovering from surgery has been really boring. As it should be, I guess.

Before my surgery, I began taking steps to overhaul the look of my bedroom. I ordered a new bed and dresser, hoping both would be ready for delivery pre-op (they were not).

Naturally Pottery Barn emailed to offer 9/21, my surgery date, as the first available delivery date.

I eventually removed the packing materials

I put it off for a few weeks, but they’re here now and I’m very happy.

I still have so much to do before I can show you the whole thing. My friend Eimear is confident about decorating so she’s helping me via a shared Pinterest board. You can see some of the inspiration here and here. While I have always loved bright, vibrant colors – and still do – my new bedroom will have a softer look.

I have decided that I’m sick of my rug (which I bought on the cheap in 2013) and am shopping for one that fits with a more serene look overall. I love this rug because it would bring in some of the dark blue from my living room but it’s more money than I’m planning to spend right now. This one might be worth a look.

I bought a curtain rod–the wrong one, turns out. My super Benny opened the box, looked at me (I was lying on my bed not helping) and shook his head. I ordered another one plus these curtains which I’m no longer sure about (why do they look more brown to me than they’re supposed to). The curtains are lying on my couch unwrinkling while I procrastinate about re-summoning the super.

My bedding is old and gross (here it is in grey). In fact, I just searched my email and discovered that I bought it way back in 2012 and for less than $80. That’s embarrassing. Or a great value. Depends on how you look at things.

Here are two options I’m considering, both from Pottery Barn.

I am also making plans for new artwork for over the bed as well as a new nightstand. Stay tuned!
