Twitter Spotlight: Karina Smirnoff

Sometimes you watch someone on TV or in a movie and you think you know them. But in the case of Dancing with the Stars’ Karina Smirnoff, you’d be wrong.

Yes, Karina is beautiful, and talented, and competitive. But until you meet her, you have no idea how bubbly and fun-loving she is. Getting to know her has been such a treat.

Recently Forever Tango announced that Karina and fellow DWTS pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy will be starring on Broadway for three weeks starting July 9. I’ll be in the audience at least once.

Extended through August 11. Buy tickets here.

K, welcome to NYC!

My NYC To Do List – #14: See Orphans on Broadway

I don’t love musicals, but do enjoy dramas.

Note: dramas, not drama.

I wanted to see Orphans even before NYMag pointed out Tom Sturridge’s “Tony-Worthy Dimples.”

You believe me, right?

Twitter Spotlight: Emily Brandwin

Here’s a first: a former spy in the Twitter Spotlight! Emily Brandwin who also goes by @CIASpyGirl on Twitter has also dabbled in stand up comedy as well as public relations.

Versatile? Yes.

When Emily and I met face to face for lunch in LA a few weeks ago, I tried not to obsess over her past spy work, but it was hard (at first). Fortunately she’s used to people like me acting like goofballs and patient about it. We’re still buddies.

OneChicklette: Your favorite qualities in a love interest

@CIASpyGirl: My most favorite qualities in a love interest are sense of humor and talent. “Funny” and “talent” are a killer combo. I also look for generosity of spirit, intelligence, smarts (street smarts) compassion, beautiful eyes, wisdom and an ability to overlook a new purse purchase.

Your chief characteristic (one word)

@CIASpyGirl: Grateful.

My NYC To Do List – Item #9: See Book of Mormon

I’m not big on Broadway musicals.

Dramas? Yes, please. But musicals, I generally think of as trite, long and just generally not for me. I hate how the seats in Broadway theaters (most of them old) are cramped, and lines for the one ladies’ room in the place will be mind bogglingly long at intermission.

Oh, and Broadway is an expensive experience.

But I really want to see Book of Mormon. Like the rest of the world. Tickets are tough to come by, but I’m working the angles.

One issue? My mom is my best angle. She wants to see the show too, she says, even though I’m pretty much positive she won’t like it. Mom is a Republican who goes to church, after all. I’m not sure I can go to see Book of Mormon without her.
