Five great things I ate (and drank) recently

1. Charcuterie at Il Buco Vineria. Probably the best I’ve ever had.

2. Gorgonzola cremificato at Murray’s Cheese. Molly and I arrived early for our class so we went two doors down to the cheese bar. Yep, we had more cheese plus charcuterie…before a cheese class.

3. Banana tiramisu at Saranello’s outside Chicago. The chef said it was inspired by his mother’s banana pudding. Italians might scream ‘sacrilege’ but it was so delicious that I can’t make myself care.

4. Fennel sausage pizza at Nellcôte. Diandra and I got ours sans mushrooms.

5. I can’t stop thinking about this wine I drank during the class at Murray’s Cheese. It was so unusual and wonderful that I’m tempted to buy a case!

How was your weekend?

It was a beautiful – and gluttonous – weekend in NYC. After a work trip that took up most of my week, I was thrilled to get home.

Molly visited. It was so fun to meet her! We ate our way through parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

On Friday, we went big, starting with drinks at the Bowery Hotel. Our two bartenders were most charming.

My NYC To Do List – Item #13: take a cheese class

I love cheese. Wouldn’t it be fun to know more about it? I think so.

In my opinion, the funkier the cheese, the better. I’m not sure there’s a cheese I wouldn’t try.

Via Murray’s

Here in the New York metropolitan area, there are cheese making classes. But I think I just want to eat it!

These are a few of the options I’m considering:

Update: I did it! Thanks to Mollytopia, I took a great class at Murray’s.

Say cheese

Growing up, I didn’t like cheese. In fact, the only way I’d eat it was in grilled cheese sandwiches. I wouldn’t even eat cheese on burgers.

Later, after I finally started eating some cheese, I remember having a cheeseburger arrive in a restaurant and I wouldn’t eat it AT ALL because the corner of the cheese slice wasn’t melted.

What a weirdo.

I don’t remember what the turning point was. All I know is that now I love cheese. All cheese.

The coolest airport store in the USA

At the end of my recent California trip, I flew home via Virgin America. Had I known that the airline’s terminal at SFO was so great, I might have skipped dinner!

Everything from charcuterie to gourmet cheese to fancy cupcakes.

I wish more airports had shops like Napa Farms Market.
