“People in New York City suffer from allergies? REALLY?”
Yes, I’m here to tell you that we do. And this op-ed tells you why we may actually suffer more than in other cities.
Although non-New Yorkers might think of NYC as the Concrete Jungle, plenty of trees, grasses and other pollen producers do grow here – and well!
One source estimates that New York City has more than 5 million trees. We’re lucky to have such a green city, but yes, we sneeze a lot in season.

Four months later, it still happens.
Sometimes it’s when I’m leaving the office for the night, and I’m surrounded by skyscrapers gleaming against an early evening sky. Or taking a cab across the Williamsburg Bridge.
But more mundane moments do it too. Like riding the subway…
Or noticing my coffee cup’s Brooklyn, NY stamp.
Or looking up at the light-up sign showing the subway’s east-west progress.
That’s when it hits me: I live here. I’m not visiting.
New York City is home again.
