My bedroom – progress report

Greeting from Dullsville! I haven’t been posting much recently because my life recovering from surgery has been really boring. As it should be, I guess.

Before my surgery, I began taking steps to overhaul the look of my bedroom. I ordered a new bed and dresser, hoping both would be ready for delivery pre-op (they were not).

Naturally Pottery Barn emailed to offer 9/21, my surgery date, as the first available delivery date.

I eventually removed the packing materials

Now I want a new bed

Setting up my new apartment is slow going. Part of that is because I am, by nature, LAZY (remember the mirrors issue?). But part of it is that as soon as I tackle one project, I find another.

For example, I sold one of two nightstands only to realize “Oh, hey! A new headboard would really help my bedroom look great.”

Let me back up for a second. Continue reading

I’m moving. Now what?

I hate moving less than most people.

Other than the expense, and other than eventually getting tired of packing, I don’t really hate moving at all. Instead, I see it as a chance for a fresh start.

In the past, I have been slow to decorate and tentative about it too. One thing I have learned from my roommate and friend, Katie, is to dive in.

If she reads this, she will laugh, thinking about how long it took me to hang these stupid mirrors in my bedroom.

I have my eye on a few items for my new apartment. This Apartment Therapy post about pink rugs has inspired some serious online browsing. You know how I feel about pink!

An alternative to Crate and Barrel’s Dubois mirror

You may remember that I posted about the evil Crate and Barrel Dubois mirror.

To reiterate, Dubois mirrors are notoriously difficult to hang and some don’t even match-up with respect to size and hanging mechanism.

I recently got a catalog from Art.com (catalog? How retro!) and noticed their gold bevel mirror. Although they lack the distressed look of the Dubois mirror, they are much less expensive than Crate and Barrel’s Dubois mirror.

From the web site and catalog, I couldn’t tell if the hanging mechanism is an improvement or not so I emailed customer service. They kindly let me know that hanging wire and hardware are included with the mirror.

Sweet!

I have to have it: true New Yorker poster

Via Two Arms Inc.

Thanks to Blue Carrot Shop for making me aware of Two Arms Inc. Now I have to decide if it’s new decor for home or my office.

If you aren’t into New York (!) you might like this or this instead.

I want it: Urban Outfitters settee

Yes, it’s pink. Very pink.

I love it. And I want it.

A google image search makes me think it is an Urban Outfitters settee–which is backordered, of course.

Has anyone bought furniture from Urban Outfitters before? If so, how’s the quality?

The elusive sofa table!

Do you ever get the feeling that if you could just find/do/accomplish this one thing, your life would be instantly awesome? That’s how I feel right now about finding a sofa table or console to go behind my couch like in the photo below.

The sofa table of my desires continues to elude me. I sent a private message to this Etsy seller Recycled Brooklyn asking for a quote on a custom table. No reply. My guess is that his business is that strong. Good for him, if so.

This console is nice too (and reasonably priced) but the sellers are in the DC area. Shipping would just about double the cost of the item. I’m trying to find something in the tri-State area.

In case you’re hunting for a console too, here are others I have spotted:

  • Rogers console table via @NyenDesigns – I like the style, but it’s more than I am willing to spend
  • A sofa table from thezenartist
  • Wood from a salvaged Japanese barge. SO cool, but also ships from CA.
  • I should just buy this one.

I bought an elephant

Just a little one.

I was shopping for furniture and instead, I found this small piece of art at Task in my neighborhood.

Elephants always remind me of my beloved Aunt Mar. She loved them, so I do too.
