Five fun things I did in NYC recently

1. Rode the Super Bowl Blvd toboggan. It was fun to see Times Square from that vantage point. I wish I’d had time to take more photos.

2. Attended an advance movie screening with @misshope. OK, so the movie, Non-Stop, wasn’t good but it was fun to catch up with my friend and we got free popcorn plus a beverage the size of my head! Continue reading

Five things I would do if I owned a hotel

I travel a lot, particularly on business, so I spend a good amount of time in hotels. This year-to-date, I have spent approximately fifteen nights in hotels already.*

Here are five things I’d implement immediately if I ran a hotel.

1. Provide high quality hair dryers.

If you care about female business travelers, this is a must. I want to look good, but I don’t want to lug my Rusk Speed Freak in my suitcase, OK?

This evil little hair dryer pictured below is the worst-of-the-worst, but a Conair without heat control and a worn out motor doesn’t win a prize either.

Hotels should treat quality hair dryers as an upsell opportunity like they do robes. If someone steals the hair dryer, add $250 to the bill. Easy.

2. Offer breakfast for room service 24/7.

Five things that are cracking me up

1. This blog post by Rod Benson about how Malibu was ruined for him. More blogging please, Rod.

2. The Twitter account @SeinfeldToday that imagines what the show’s episodes would be like if the show were still in production. Remember: Seinfeld ended before texting and Facebook, before lots of things.

3. Lady Grantham’s 11 Best Zingers via BuzzFeed

4. This cat whose name is Fitzroy. HIS FACE!

5. This submission from Damn You, Autocorrect. (5b. This one too)

Five things I want to buy right now

1. This book by Damien Echols. I enjoy reading memoirs and the less they are like my own life, the better.

2. A Bazinga lunchbox for my Big Bang Theory-loving Dad. Not sure what he’d do with it but still! 3. These Stuart Weitzman boots. I’d kick so much a$$ wearing them.

4. This pink opal ring 5. Items for people affected by Sandy. All is not back to normal, folks.

Five things that are great about Scranton

1. Memories. History.

2. Old Forge style pizza. Note: not all are actually in Old Forge. My personal favorites include Colarusso’s, Salerno’s and Armetta’s.

3. What constitutes ‘traffic’ and ‘lines’ makes me giggle. Parking is easy and on Black Friday, it was free downtown. When people complain, I want to show them city traffic and explain how it teaches patience but I bite my tongue. Usually.

4. Things are cheap.

5. Seeing family of course!
