Now I want a new bed

Setting up my new apartment is slow going. Part of that is because I am, by nature, LAZY (remember the mirrors issue?). But part of it is that as soon as I tackle one project, I find another.

For example, I sold one of two nightstands only to realize “Oh, hey! A new headboard would really help my bedroom look great.”

I finally bought it: a sofa table

I have been trying to find The Perfect Sofa Table for a long time. Years.

What a total pain in the a$$, y’all.

I had my heart set on working with RecycledBrooklyn.

They make beautiful furniture from reclaimed wood. I wanted to support local business while also avoiding shipping costs. Alas, they were unresponsive, something that is apparently typical.

I eventually found what I wanted on Etsy via Happy. Home. Austin.

And it’s here! I love it.

I want it: Urban Outfitters settee

Yes, it’s pink. Very pink.

I love it. And I want it.

A google image search makes me think it is an Urban Outfitters settee–which is backordered, of course.

Has anyone bought furniture from Urban Outfitters before? If so, how’s the quality?

Peter Brady does what?!

I was searching Overstock for a new living room chair or small chaise when I came across this:

CK chair

As a Generation Xer, I hear Christopher Knight and immediately think Peter Brady. Can’t be the same Christopher Knight, right?

Wrong! Lo and behold, Christopher Knight doesn’t just have an ill-advised soul patch. He also has a furniture line.

CK edit

I’m still looking for the perfect chair.

Five things that made me cringe recently

1. This chaise. The seller claims s/he paid $1000 for it. Color me skeptical.

2. This guy.

The evil Crate and Barrel Dubois mirror

I coveted a set of these Crate & Barrel mirrors for ages. Based on the price and my desire to buy at least three, I hunted high and low for a cheaper substitute to no avail.

Eventually I bought three, thinking I’d trade up to six or even nine over time.

When I got them home and opened the boxes, I was shocked to see that two of the three had just holes for hanging whereas the third had what appeared to be half of a hanging contraption.

My need for STUFF

Maybe it’s the appearance of a modest bonus. Perhaps it’s crossing “pay taxes” off my two do list. Whatever the cause, I suddenly have shopping on my brain.

At the top of my list? Two specific pieces of furniture. And given my [past?] tendency to buy every damn thing for my apartment from Crate & Barrel, I’m looking for unique things. Continue reading
