Six things I am asking Santa for

Even grinches like me have wish lists. And in year’s like this [extraordinarily rough] one, I won’t let anyone take that from me.

Not that this group of kind people would try. You have been so lovely to me.

You know from past posts that I’m a huge fan of the brand’s outerwear. While I love the pale pink of this coat, what I really need is a basic black coat–with some flair, of course. I’m waiting for this one to go on sale. Continue reading

How was your weekend?

After a birthday-driven, cocktail-infused couple of days, my plan for the weekend was clear: LAY LOW.

Bo-ring, right? In my defense, I had social plans six days out of the previous eight. My liver isn’t 23 years old anymore. Neither is the rest of me.

First there was a gluttonous, delicious birthday dinner at Javelina – yes, the site of that hilarious NYT review. If you get there, make sure to get at least one kind of queso. I was too hungry to take pics of ours so here’s one from Instagram.

Odds and Ends

While I’m still recovering from New Year’s Eve – STILL! – here are some tidbits I want to share that don’t fit anywhere else. Enjoy!

Remember when I posted about sabrage? Jason and Amy Storch (aka Amalah, whose blog I love) tried it at home on New Year’s Eve and the results were hilarious.

I spotted this coat in Stone Flower‘s Williamsburg location and it reminded me so much of my Kate Spade Suzette coat, bow and all. This coat doesn’t have the same level of detail, but for $125, it’s a cute option. Continue reading

I [wished I] bought it: Kate Spade Etta coat

You know how people tell you to wait before making a purchase? How most of the time, if you don’t buy it, later you’ll be glad you didn’t spend the money.

I wish I felt that way about Kate Spade‘s Etta coat.

Guest Post: @eimski on Birchbox

This is the first of four guest posts my friend @eimski will be contributing to Just One Chick. The ideas for these posts came up when she visited me in Brooklyn to celebrate our October birthdays.

The Monthly Surprise in my Box

My MAIL box, people, jeez.

For a long time I have been intrigued by the monthly ‘sample’ boxes my friends had been subscribing to. BirchBox promised to introduce me to new beauty and lifestyle products for a reasonable price and without the pain of being left with unused products if I hated it. $10 a month seemed like a good investment and my friends had raved about it, so I made my way to the website and signed up and eagerly waited for my monthly supply of beauty goodies.

The first month arrived and I was underwhelmed. The best part of the box was being introduced to Twistbands. Those suckers really do work and don’t leave a ridge in your hair. Otherwise, however, I could not have cared less about the box.

Still, I decided to persevere.

Month two arrived with a small sample of Kate Spade’s ‘Twirl’ fragrance and a razor. I was incensed. Continue reading

I bought it: Kate Spade Suzette coat

I like the show New Girl – cutesy catchphrases and all. But I haven’t been watching this season live, for the most part. Too busy.

Recently though I did catch one episode live: the one where Zooey Deschanel’s Jess wore a fantastic blue coat.

I immediately turned to twitter and asked @Possessionista if she had details of this gorgeous coat.

Duh.

Within minutes, @Possessionista (aka Dana) had told me not just that the coat was from Kate Spade but also where I could get one of the last few available for sale.

Merry Christmas to me. It’s here and I love it!

Sadly, it’s sold out just about everywhere now. Even the not-Jess-worn red version. Try ebay if you’re determined.
