One of a thousand #MeToo posts I could write

This story is gross and upsetting and I have long been embarrassed about it. I could have sworn that I wrote a post about the incident, but searching “Chris” and “gross” didn’t produce any results.

Even now, many years later, I feel uncomfortable typing the words. But the story is timely and in sharing it, maybe I can help someone feel less alone while they consider their own #MeToo moments.

I was young and broke and living in NYC. My first job after college graduation paid just $25,000* and my rent was $950 per month. If I’d had any common sense at all at twenty-two years old, I would have realized that living alone wasn’t a viable option. But I was stubborn and wanted to feel independent, even as I accepted subsidies from my parents.

Recognizing that I was locked into a year-long lease, my mother didn’t give me too much grief when I called home crying poverty. But she did suggest I get a second job for some hours outside of my 9-5 gig.

Things I learned this weekend

First, a whiskey sour is a terrific summer cocktail. So is Bowery Hotel’s Luna de Fresa ideally made by Walter Easterbrook.

Next, a backhanded compliment is still a compliment.

As in “this is the best I’ve ever seen you look” and “you’ve lost a ton of weight” when said by a handsome, but socially awkward, man.

On the other hand, if my mother said either thing to me, I wouldn’t speak to her for a week.

Also, contrary to this articlefitness classes are not 50% easier the second time around.

Still, this notion got me in the door for Pure Barre class #2. Maybe the third time will be the charm. Hopefully. You know how I feel about classes.

I’m not the first person to say “no” to being a bridesmaid.

This $50 Banana Republic top has a bit of magic to it. I’m not surprised it’s mostly sold out in white.

Finally, Tinder is still hilarious and alarming. (NSFW)

What did you learn this weekend?

People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive

Is it too soon to talk about who will be People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2012?

I know: this issue doesn’t come out until November, and it’s March now.

But still. This matters, right?? In a #firstworldproblems kind of way.

People, there is last year’s “winner” to atone for.

We can't believe it either, Brad

There was backlash, particularly among Ryan Gosling fans, and people who wonder if Bradley is living an, ahem, inauthentic life (what’s sexy about hiding your true self, after all?).
