You have to admit…

Even if you didn’t vote for President Obama, or if you don’t support Hillary, you have to admit

Via Society6 and JasonWYates

The lack of diversity among American presidents is appalling.

There has never been a President of Italian descent, or a President who publicly identified as gay or transgender. We have never had a Jewish President, a female President, a Native American President or an Asian-American President. Every single President has been Christian and just one has been Catholic.

My friend Cherylanne‘s seven year old was stunned to realize that every single American President has been male.

How can we responsibly continue to allow such a narrow segment of the American population to represent all of us?

We can’t.

Instead we have to believe that different perspectives are good for the nation. We have to trust that diversity and inclusion will take us in a positive direction. And obviously, we have to vote.

Twitter Spotlight: Jesse Berney

It’s not unusual for me to start a Twitter Spotlight by saying that I love the person’s tweets. That’s how this process starts, after all.

With Jesse Berney, I like that his tweets are a great mix of funny and smart. Sometimes I even learn something!

Without further ado, here’s Jesse.

Twitter Spotlight: @BlairDC

If memory serves – and frankly, it doesn’t always – @BlairDC was one of the first people I met in DC via Twitter.

Not working on The Hill, I spent a lot of my time living there feeling like an outsider. Talking and tweeting with Blair, though, gave me a peek into the DC scene I never would have had otherwise.

Do not miss Blair’s Instagrams–her beautiful hometown on North Carolina’s coast plays a starring role.

Proof Kerry Washington can act

You know Kerry is my girl crush.

Before Scandal and Django Unchained (which I still haven’t seen), there was Save the Last Dance. Yep, Kerry was teen mom Chenille.

I love you, Susan Sarandon via @thedailybeast

Among other things Ms. Sarandon said in this Daily Beast interview regarding her role in Jeff Who Lives at Home, I really appreciated this. Probably because I share her opinion.

What are your thoughts on the GOP’s field of presidential hopefuls?

I’m finding them incredibly amusing. They’re so ridiculous that it’s entertainment. I can’t imagine that America would be that insane to put any of these people in [the White House]. I just have to believe that the GOP just wrote off this time and said, ‘We don’t care. Anybody can run!’ ’Cause this can’t be the best they can do.
