The Bachelor returns

A new season of The Bachelor is about to begin so this is me right now:

Jessie Spano

Was Ben my favorite?

Via ABC/JustJared

Nah, seems boring. Emma and Claire agree (listen here).

Ben is handsome but in a Ken doll kind of way. If something distinguishes him from your average bro, I haven’t seen it yet.

But I’ll be watching of course. I always do.

Of course, I’m not here for the right reasons. Unless you consider snark to be the right reason.

Here, herehere and here are some other recommended reading for show prep.

This is not a recap of The Bachelorette

Someone asked me “why don’t you write recaps of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette when you’re such an avid viewer?”

Good questions deserve good answers.KB

First (and foremost), I am a very, very lazy person. Continue reading

Why has The Bachelor been SO good this season?

If you had told me I would someday call Chris Soules‘ season must-see TV, I would have laughed in your face. I thought “Prince Farming” was more like Prince Snoring.*

But I’m hooked. Here we are in season 19 of The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise and amazingly, ratings are way up.

I struggled to identify what has made this season so good. Fortunately Kristin Dos Santos investigated.

E OnlineNice work, everyone. Especially you, Millsy.

*Let’s face it: I watch every season.

Five creepy things Chris Soules said that weren’t actually creepy

If you have been watching The Bachelor this season – which has been fantastic, by the way – you know Chris has a funny way with words. His blog for People Magazine only serves to supplement the broadcast show, and in writing.

The return of The Bachelor

My Monday nights are spoken for once again. Please don’t suggest we go to dinner for the next few nights. I like dinner, and I probably (maybe) like you. But the answer will be no.

The new Bachelor, Chris Soules, is a farmer from Iowa. He is looking for a wife to join him on the farm which, sadly, eliminated me from contention. Well, that plus my age (old) and present physical condition (semi-sloppy). But mostly it’s my city slicker-ness that kept me from auditioning for this season. Continue reading

Marquel for Bachelor

By now, 99% of you Bachelorette viewers know that Marquel was one of three guys sent home by that lunatic Andi on the most recent episode.

I crossed out the lunatic part but between Marquel and Eric, I have real questions about her judgment. Although maybe she and I should be friends: we would never fight over men. Continue reading

Would Chris Harrison be The Bachelor?

One of our favorite television hosts was featured in the New York Times Magazine Sunday.

An excerpt:

Would you ever be the Bachelor?
Now that I’m divorced, it’s feasible.

Alas, he continued:

But there needs to be a level of innocence and naïveté when you come in to be the Bachelor, and I have none. I have seen how the sausage has been made for 12 years now, and I helped make that sausage and so it just wouldn’t work.

Keep dreaming, Bachelor fans.

The interview has some other gems. My favorites involve egg whites and having hair on his chest. Click here to read it.

Twitter Spotlight: Ashley Spivey

I have wanted to feature Ashley Spivey here for a long time.

It was Ashley’s appearance on Brad’s second season as The Bachelor that introduced the world to her Southern accent and quick wit. Her tweets keep us laughing (except when they’re about books in which case they’re super useful in building a Good Reads list) and her Instagrams give us little peeks into her life in NYC and travels beyond.
